Fresh Eyes was born on a spur of the moment decision made in a strange time.Â
Covid and its implications were being foisted upon us in 2020. I was a year into my mentoring work, finishing a Masters of Arts Management, my final research focused on the difficulties many visual artists have with writing about their work. Earlier that year I had participated in a writing retreat, flow writing for four days straight, a profound experience.Â
A number of artists I knew were reaching out to me, concerned about isolation, the impact on their mental health and their inability to work.Â
It was not much of a decision, really. I put the word out: join me for flow writing each morning for 20 minutes, for two weeks. It offered connection and community at this hard time and created a space for an easy way into writing and building, what I like to call, the writing muscle.Â
I set a prompt. We would write together and then have a short conversation. Did I know completely what I was doing each morning? Um, no. But it made sense. At the end of the two weeks, we continued for another two.Â
Thatâs how Fresh Eyes was born, and now it is in its fifth year. The need for this sort of experience and community is as strong as it was in 2020.Â
I hope you can join us again, or for the first time.

What even is FLOW writing?
Flow writing (also called free writing or stream of consciousness writing) is writing for a fixed period of time, as fast as you can, without stopping and making any corrections. It is recommended to do this by hand. Each weekday morning we will be flow writing together.
Is this just for ceramic people?
